Calla Lily Buffet Set

MATERIALS REQUIRED: Lily SKYTONE MERCERIZED CROCHET COTTON, Art. 123: 1 1/3-balls Emerald Green and 1/2 ball White; and

DAISY MERCERIZED CROCHET COTTON, Art. 65, size 20: 1 1/3-skeins Emerald Green, 1-skein White, 1/3-skein Yellow. Steel crochet hooks Nos. 7 and 12.

LARGE DOILY--(Size - 18 inches)--Calla Lily--Starting at center with White SKYTONE and No. 7 hook, ch 2, 7 sc in 2d ch from hook, join with sl st in back lp of 1st sc.

2d rnd: Ch 3, 2 dc in same place as sl st, (3 dc in back lp of next sc) 6 times, join with sl st to top of ch-3.

3d rnd: Ch 3, dc in same place as sl st. Working in both lps of sts, (2 dc in next dc) 5 times, (ch 1, dc in next dc) 9 times, ch 1, (2 dc in next dc) 6 times. Join.

4th rnd: Ch 3, dc in same place as sl st, (dc in next dc, 2 dc in next dc) 5 times, (ch 2, dc in next ch-1 sp) 10 times, ch 2, sk 1 dc, (dc in next dc, 2 dc in next dc) 5 times, dc in next dc. Join.

5th rnd: Ch 3, dc in same place as sl st, (dc in next 2 dc, 2 dc in next dc) 5 times, dc in next dc, (3 dc in next ch-2 sp, dc in next dc) 5 times, 3 tr in next sp, (dc in next dc, 3 dc in next sp) 5 times, (dc in next 2 dc, 2 dc in next dc) 5 times, dc in next dc. Join.

6th rnd: Ch 3, dc in same place as sl st, (dc in next 5 dc, 2 dc in next dc) 6 times, dc in next 6 dc, tr in next tr, in next tr make 2 tr, ch 3, sl st in last tr for a p, and 2 tr. Tr in next tr, (dc in next 5 dc, 2 dc in next dc) 6 times, dc in next 5 dc. Join. Fasten off.

Pistil--With DAISY in Yellow and No. 12 hook, ch 10, sk 3 ch, dc in next 7 ch.

Row 2--Ch 3, turn, dc in 7 dc. Repeat Row 2 thru Row 6.

Row 7--Ch 1, turn, sc in 1st dc, (sk 1 dc, sc in next dc) 3 times.

Row 8--Ch 1, turn, (sk 1 sc, sc in next sc) twice.

Row 9--Ch 1, turn, sk 1 sc, sc in last sc. Cut 8 inches long, thread to a needle, roll crochet lengthwise and sew edges tog. down back. With right side inside, roll flower circle into a funnel at opposite side from p, folding left side over first, then right side over. Stretch top edges on front and roll back as in illustration. Tack in place, insert Pistil in tube and tack. Make 8 Lilies.

Starting at center with Emerald Green SKYTONE and No. 7 hook, ch 10, join with sl st to form ring.

1st rnd: Ch 4, dc in ring, (ch 1, dc in ring) 14, times, ch 1, join with sl st to 3d ch of ch-4.

2d rnd: Ch 3, dc in same place as sl st, * ch 2, dc in next dc, ch 2, 2 dc in next dc. Repeat from * around. Join with ch-2, sl st in top of ch-3.

12th rnd: Continue as before, having ch-8, dc in center dc, ch-8, across each leaf.

13th rnd: Make ch-9, dc in center dc, ch-9, across each leaf.

SMALL DOILY--(Size - 14 inches)--(Make two)--Repeat Large Doily using DAISY White, Yellow and Emerald Green and No. 12 hook.

Pistil--Using Yellow, ch 8, sk 3 ch, dc in next 5 ch.

Row 2--Ch 3, turn, dc in 5 dc. Repeat Row 2 thru Row 5.

Row 6--Ch 1, turn, sc in 1st dc, (sk 1 dc, sc in next dc) twice.

Row 7--Ch l, turn, sk 1 sc, sc in next 2 sc.

Row 8--Ch 1, turn, sk 1 sc, sc in last sc. Cut 8 inches long, thread to a needle, roll lengthwise and sew edges tog. down back. Make one for each Lily.

Stretch and pin doilies right-side-down in true circle. Steam and press dry thru a cloth.

Lovely Rose Potholder

This potholder may be made with any of the AMERICAN THREAD COMPANY products listed below: "PURITAN" CROCHET COTTON Article 40, 1 ball Red or color desired, 1 ball White OR "DE LUXE" CROCHET COTTON, Article 346, 2 ball Red or color desired, 1 ball White OR "STAR" PEARL COTTON, Article 90, size 5, 3 balls Red or color desire, 1 ball White Steel Hook 7, 1 bone Ring. Pot holder is worked with a double strand of thread throughout.

With Cream ch 6, join to form a ring, ch 5, d c in ring, * ch 2, d c in ring, repeat from * 5 times, ch 2, join in 3rd st of ch.

2nd Row—* Ch 4, s c in next d c, repeat from * all around (8 loops).

3rd Row—Sl st into loop, * ch 7, s c in 2nd st from hook, 1 s d c in each of the next 2 sts of ch (s d c: thread over hook, insert in space, pull through, thread over and work off all loops at one time), 1 d c in each of the next 3 sts of ch, s c in next loop, repeat from * all around.

4th Row—1 s c in each of the 5 sts on side of petal, 3 s c in point of petal, 5 s c down other side of petal, repeat from beginning all around, join, cut thread.

5th Row—Attach Green in point of petal, 3 s c in same space, * 1 s d c in each of the next 2 s c, d c in next s c, thread over hook twice, insert hook in last s c on side of petal and work off 2 loops twice, thread over hook once, insert in 1 st s c on side of next petal and work off all loops 2 at a time, skip 2 s c, d c in next s c, 1 s d c in each of the next 2 s c, 3 s c in next s c (top of petal), repeat from * all around in same manner, join.

6th Row—Ch 3, * 3 d c in next s c, 1 d c in each of the next 3 sts, 1 s d c in each of the next 3 sts, 1 d c in each of the next 3 sts, repeat from * all around in same manner, join in 3rd st of ch, cut thread.

7th Row—Attach Cream in center st at point, ch 1 and work 3 s c in same space, * 1 s c in each of the next 5 sts, ch 9, 1 s c in 2nd st from hook, 1 s d c in each of the next 3 sts of ch, 1 d c in each of the next 4 sts of ch, skip 1 st of previous row, 1 s c in each of the next 5 sts, 3 s c in next st, repeat from * all around in same manner, join.

8th Row—Ch 1 and work 1 s c in same space, 1 s c in each of the next 6 s c, * skip 1 s c and work 7 s c up side of petal. 3 s c in point of petal, 7 s c down other side of petal, skip 1 s c, 1 s c in each of the next 1 1 s c, repeat from * all around in same manner ending row with 1 s c in each of the last 4 s c, join, cut thread.

10th Row—Ch 3 and work 3 d c in center st at top of each petal and 1 d c in each remaining st.

11th Row—Ch 3, ** 3 d c in next st (point), 1 d c in each of the next 10 sts, * thread over hook, insert in next st, pull through and work off 2 loops, repeat from * once, thread over and work off all loops at one time (a decrease at base of scallop), 1 d c in each of the next 9 d c, repeat from ** all around in same manner, cut thread. Work another section in same manner. With Green sew the 2 sections together. With Green cover a bone ring with s c and sew to top of holder.

ROSE: Using a single strand of thread, with Shaded Pinks ch 5, join to form a ring, ch 5, d c in ring, * ch 2, d c in ring, repeat from * 3 times, ch 2, join in 3rd st of ch.

Next Row—Sl st into loop, 1 s c, 5 d c, 1 s c in same space, * 1 s c, 5 d c, 1 s c in next loop, repeat from * 4 times, join.

Next Row—* Ch 5, sl st in back of work between next 2 petals, repeat from * 5 times.

Next Row—Over each loop work 1 s c, 7 d c, 1 s c, join.

Next Row—* Ch 7, sl st in back of work between next 2 petals, repeat from * all around.

Next Row—Over each loop work 1 s c, 2 d c, 5 tr c, 2 d c, 1 s c, join, cut thread. Sew Rose to front of potholder as illustrated.

Pretty Vintage Flower Coasters

MATERIALS--Lily Rug Yarn, Art. 241:--1-sk. each Med. Green, Cream, Wine, Lavender, Lt. Dusty Rose and Deep Rose (sufficient for several large Sets). Crochet hook size 0.

COASTER--Flower--In Cream, ch 7, sl st in 1st st. Ch 3, 20 dc in ring, sl st in top of ch-3. Fasten off. In back lps, using Deep Rose, sl st in one dc, * ch 3, dc in 2 tr in same st, ch 3, sl st in last tr for a p, 2 tr and 1 dc in next dc, ch 3, sl st in same dc, sl st in next 2 dc. Repeat from * around (7 petals). Fasten off. In same color, make a large French Knot in center hole.

LEAVES--In Green, ch 18, * sk last ch, (sl st, sc, hdc, dc, 2 tr, dc, hdc and sl st) on ch, * ch 4, sk last ch, sc in next 3 ch, ch 10 and repeat from * to *. Sk 1st leaf, sc in 8 ch of stem. Fasten off. Tack stem between 2 petals. Tack leaves to tips of 2 petals.

Make 2d Flower with Lt. Dusty Rose petals, 3d with Lavender and 4th with Wine. Repeat for desired number in Set.

CASE--In Green, ch 5, sl st in 1st ch. Ch 3, 15 dc in ring, sl st in top of ch-3.

ROW 2--Ch 5, dc in same st. In back lps in all rows, make * 2 dc in next dc, (dc, ch 2, dc) in next. Repeat from * around. Sl st in 3d st of ch-5.

ROW 3--Sc in next ch-2 sp, ch 5, dc in same sp, * dc in each dc across side to next sp, (dc, ch 2, dc) in ch-2 sp. Repeat from * around. Sl st in 3d st of ch-5.

ROW 4--Repeat last row.

ROW 5--Sl st in next ch-2 sp, sc in next 3 dc, hdc in next 5 dc, (dc, ch 2, dc) in next sp, dc in next 8 dc, (dc, ch 2, dc) in next sp, hdc in next 5 dc, sc in next 3 dc, sl st in next sp. Fasten off. Put this half-row at bottom,--under leaves and stems of Coasters.

TIES--Fasten a 9" strand of Green to each diagonal side of Case (4 Ties). Rub the back of Coasters and Case with a pad of cloth dipped in hot, thick starch and pin down flat until dry. Pile Coasters on Case and tie strings over the top.
